Recus alternative: Monito vs Recus
Recus studies a page from a URL, generates functional, validation, accessibility, security and UX tests, and runs them in a real browser. Source Recus is built for a first-pass sweep that your team reviews. Monito saves the checks you care about and reruns them on every deploy, and a pass has to cite a measured check. Choose based on whether you want a one-off scan or a repeatable gate.

Recus facts checked 2026-10-29
| Recus | Source | |
|---|---|---|
| Positioning | Recus describes itself as "AI QA That Learns Your Product" and "Product-aware AI QA", and it publishes an Autonomous QA page. | Source |
| How it works | Start from a URL in the dashboard, with no test scripts. It loads the page, scrolls lazy content, reads the visual and accessibility structure, and writes a product brief before testing. | Source |
| Generated tests | The AI turns page context into functional, validation, accessibility, security and UX tests. Its docs say a generated security-related check "is not a penetration test or a security certification". | Source |
| Browser | Runs tests in a real browser (Chromium per the docs). It discovers UI revealed by actions and explores selected same-host routes. "Finding a link does not mean it was tested." | Source |
| Verdicts and evidence | Verdicts are pass, fail and warning, with screenshots, recordings, Playwright traces and action logs "where available". | Source |
| Email skill | The Email skill can create a fresh email identity, wait for a verification message, and use an OTP or link in the browser journey. Recus notes that skill availability does not guarantee journey completion. | Source |
| Human review | It asks for test data when supported. CAPTCHA or reCAPTCHA may need manual review. Unverified checks are not counted as a pass. | Source |
| Coverage caveat | Generated coverage still needs human review. Pass, fail and warning do not certify that the whole product is ready to ship. | Source |
| Slack | Connect a Slack workspace, pick a channel, and send a completed-run summary manually or automatically. | Source |
| Pricing | $0, "free for everyone during early access", with no credit card and no trial countdown. "Paid plans may be introduced as the product matures." | Source |
| Integrations | Docs describe zero setup with "no SDK, no CI/CD integration". A CLI, MCP server, GitHub Actions, API or schedules were not documented as of 2026-10-29. | Source |
How the workflows differ
| Recus | Monito | |
|---|---|---|
| Authoring | Paste a URL; the AI drafts tests from what it sees on the page. You review and extend them. Source | Describe the browser journey and expected result in plain English. |
| Where tests live | Generated per scan in Recus; run history and reports stay in the dashboard. Source | Scenarios saved in Monito, with Markdown export. No Playwright code export. |
| Pricing model | $0 during early access, with no card. Paid plans may be introduced later. Source | Pro is $79/month for 700 credits. Test runs and Discovery spend credits; see the offer below. |
| Triggers | Start a scan from the dashboard. Docs describe zero setup with "no SDK, no CI/CD integration". A CLI, MCP server or schedules were not documented as of 2026-10-29. Source | Web app, CLI and MCP. Schedules, deploy webhooks and GitHub Actions are available; plan requirements are below. |
| Maintenance | Tests are regenerated from the live page. Generated coverage "still needs human review". Source | You update the scenario when the expected behavior changes. The agent chooses browser actions during each run. |
Where Recus is the better fit
Choose Recus when you want a free, zero-setup first pass of a URL and no tests written yet. The price is $0 with no card during early access. Source
Choose Recus when the journey needs a fresh inbox, an emailed OTP or a verification link. Its Email skill handles that, and availability does not guarantee the journey finishes. Source
Choose Recus when you want a broad exploratory sweep that a person will triage, for example an agency reviewing a client site before handoff. Source
Evidence
Recus reports pass, fail and warning, plus screenshots, recordings, Playwright traces and action logs where available. Source
An accuracy figure was not published on recus.app as of 2026-10-29. Source
Monito reports pass, fail or cannot verify. A pass has to cite a measured check, with screenshots, network and console evidence. The published figures and their limits are on the reliability page.
Where Monito fits
Use Monito when the same checks should run again on every deploy, and a red result should fail the GitHub Actions job rather than only produce a report. The deploy webhook queues runs. It does not block a deploy. Only the GitHub Actions blocking mode does.
Use Monito when a pass has to be auditable. Each expected behavior cites a measured check, and Monito never rewrites a test to make it pass.
Discovery explores the app and proposes tests to review, at 20 credits per discovery. That is the closest thing Monito has to a URL-in sweep.
The Monito MCP server lets an AI tool run Monito directly: it checks a URL and expectation in a real browser, returns a verdict with evidence, and lets you save the check as a reusable test. The CLI is npx -y @monitodev/cli, including a local MCP server.
The hosted server at /api/mcp rejects localhost and private-network URLs; use a deployed preview there.
For a deployed app, schedules and deploy hooks can rerun the same scenario. For work on localhost, the CLI or local MCP server opens a per-run tunnel to the hosted browser. Nothing listening means no run and no charge. Local checks cannot be scheduled or added to suites, automations or status pages.
A public status page for the journeys you schedule is on Pro or Team.
Monito does not document a built-in disposable inbox or OTP skill. Do not read Recus's Email skill as something Monito matches.
Monito runs desktop Chromium. It does not test native mobile apps, provide Firefox or WebKit runs, or export Playwright code.
Monito pricing
Pro is $79/month for 700 credits, counted on the pricing page as about 600 test runs and 5 Discoveries. A test run is 1 credit and Discovery is 20, so the same 700 credits are 700 test runs if you skip Discovery. Team is $199/month for 1,800 credits (about 1,500 tests and 15 Discoveries). Yearly plans cost ten monthly payments ($790 and $1,990) and grant twelve months of credits upfront. If Monito caused the error, that run is free.
50 free test credits every month. Your balance refills to 50 on the 1st of each month (UTC), counting credits reserved by running tests. Unused credits are not added again; purchased credits are kept. Your signup credits count as the first month. Free includes one daily schedule. Verify your email to receive monthly refills. Any schedule other than that one daily schedule, a deploy webhook, GitHub Actions, and a public status page need Pro.
Published benchmark evidence
On the held-out benchmark measured 2026-10-12, the verdict was right on 58 of 60 runs, with 0 false passes in 30 chances (95% upper bound 9.6%). The held-out set covers 5 open-source apps.
On our own corpus, measured 2026-10-05, the verdict was right on 110 of 111 runs, with 0 false passes in 57 chances (95% upper bound 5.2%), and 88 of 111 verdicts cited the required evidence. Neither set is a promise about your app. The held-out set is a small number of real bugs in open-source apps. The corpus is ours. The method and the limits are on the reliability page.
