Monito vs Ghost Inspector
Ghost Inspector records browser steps and targets elements with CSS or XPath. Monito takes a plain-English description of what a user does and what must be true afterwards, runs it in Chromium, and returns Passed, Failed or Error with screenshots, console messages and network requests. If your recordings rarely break, stay. If you keep repairing selectors, move the journeys that break most.

Side by side
| Ghost Inspector | Monito | |
|---|---|---|
| Test authoring | Ghost Inspector's Chrome and Firefox recorder records actions and assertions. The codeless editor targets elements using CSS or XPath and supports JavaScript steps. Recorder · Editor | A plain-English scenario: what the user does, and what must be true afterwards. |
| Schedules | Tests support interval schedules, with an Advanced Schedule for specific days and times on paid plans. Tests and suites can also run through the API. Source | Monito offers a single us-east region and an hourly minimum schedule. Schedule presets are hourly, every 6 hours, daily and weekly, in UTC. |
| CI | The GitHub Actions example uses docker://ghostinspector/cli with test execute or suite execute, --apiKey, --startUrl and --errorOnFail. Source | A deploy webhook queues runs after deployment. For a blocking GitHub check, use the documented CLI project run workflow. Both integrations require Pro or Team. The hosted MCP server can run a check after a change. The deploy webhook queues runs and does not block the deploy. |
| Export | Exports include re-importable Ghost Inspector JSON, Selenium IDE v3 .side and Selenium IDE v1 .html. Suites download as a .zip. Source | Monito does not import Ghost Inspector JSON. You describe the intent of the journey. |
| Run evidence | Ghost Inspector's Visual Capture setting enables or disables screenshots and video during a test run. Source | Read the run report's measured checks, screenshots, network and console evidence. Recording is off for signed-in runs; masked screenshots are captured instead. Keep old traces, videos and screenshots separately; a new scenario starts its own run history. |
| Pricing | Starter includes 10,000 test runs per month. Tests pause for the rest of the period when the monthly run limit is exceeded. Source | Free, Pro $79/month, Team $199/month, Managed $750/month. |
Pro is $79/month for 700 credits, counted on the pricing page as about 600 test runs and 5 Discoveries. A test run is 1 credit and Discovery is 20, so the same 700 credits are 700 test runs if you skip Discovery. Team is $199/month for 1,800 credits (about 1,500 tests and 15 Discoveries). Yearly plans cost ten monthly payments ($790 and $1,990) and grant twelve months of credits upfront. If Monito caused the error, that run is free. 50 free test credits every month. Your balance refills to 50 on the 1st of each month (UTC), counting credits reserved by running tests. Unused credits are not added again; purchased credits are kept. Your signup credits count as the first month. Free includes one daily schedule. Verify your email to receive monthly refills. Any schedule other than that one daily schedule, a deploy webhook, GitHub Actions, and a public status page need Pro. Plans and credit usage
The schedule page describes interval schedules and an Advanced Schedule. The page checked on 2026-11-05 does not list the interval lengths, so this comparison does not claim a sub-hourly Ghost Inspector cadence.
Who should stay on Ghost Inspector
Stay when any of these are the point of the test:
- You need Firefox runs. Test settings offer Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox versions. Selecting more than one browser version runs the test once per version. Source
- You need more than one region. Tests can run from specific regions and default to AWS us-east-1. Selecting more than one region runs the test once per region. Source
- You rely on JavaScript steps in the editor. Test editor
- You need video of a signed-in run. Visual Capture can record video. Recording is off for signed-in Monito runs.
Runs execute in us-east. You cannot select multiple regions. An environment selects the target app and login, not the runner's region. Monito has no private-location worker. Monito offers a single us-east region and an hourly minimum schedule. Schedule presets are hourly, every 6 hours, daily and weekly, in UTC.
Who should move a journey
Move a journey when a small team, often shipping with a coding agent, keeps repairing the recorded selectors after UI changes. The replacement says what should happen, not which element to click, and the same run holds the screenshots, console messages and network requests for the bug report.
The migration playbook maps a recording to a scenario, including logins, schedules and the CI cutover.
How to move one journey
- Open the Ghost Inspector test and read the recorded actions and assertions. Note the start URL. Leave secrets in Ghost Inspector.
- In Monito, write one scenario: what the user does, and what must be true afterward. Put the login on an environment login role. How to write the scenario.
- Run it. Read the screenshots, console and network evidence. An error means Monito could not verify the scenario. It is not a pass.
- Replace the
docker://ghostinspector/clistep for that journey with Monito's project run, or add a deploy webhook if the pipeline does not need to wait. The playbook has the current CLI command. A coding agent can run the same check through MCP. - When the Monito run covers the failure you cared about, turn off the Ghost Inspector schedule for that test. Leave the recordings you still need where they are.
